The highly anticipated film Immortals hits theaters today, the real question is, was it worth all the hype. I’m happy to say I was pleasantly surprised with the film. Now if you’re going in, hoping for a traditional by the books story about the Greek Gods, you will be disappointed. However if you’re open minded about an entertaining adaptation you should enjoy it.
The film is pretty epic visually, even if some of the dark scenes were a bit too dark. I’ve noticed this seems to be a trend with films lately. The scenes with the Gods fighting on earth look amazing and Henry Cavill as Theseus proves why he’s on par to be one of Hollywoods hottest leading men. Immortals is most definitely not a film for youngsters, there are more than a few scenes that will make you cringe and are a tad uncomfortable, most of the time courtesy of master evil villain Mickey Rourke.
Sure it’s not an award winner, they weren’t breaking any new ground or showing us anything we haven’t seen before. But at the end of the day its a pretty exciting action film that’s acted well and looks good. My only real complaint is the end. It’s awkward and an obvious attempt to set up a sequel if they wanted to do one. It’s like a pretty good meal that leaves a weird after taste.
