Before He Cheats Review Carrie Underwood’s Carnival Ride tour stopped by Nokia Theatre thursday night. It was Carries first headlining show in the Dallas area. A bit shocking if you think about the amount of time she spends on the road and the countless awards she’s racked up over the past 3 years. No reason to avoid a major market.

Production was pretty big having a catwalk taking up almost the entire center section of the theater. There were lasers.. I thought that was a bit excessive but still cool. The lights were a bit erratic at first but calmed down after the first song. The thing that baffles me is, Carrie has the chops.. and the charm, so why the erratic lights and lasers? Dont get me wrong.. I like cool stages, good lighting, and meaningful props, heck I even like pyro and confetti. But out of everything what I mostly could have done without was the 3.5 outfit changes.

Vocally Carrie sounded great, and even treated the audience to a duet with opening act Little Big Town. A great candid yet planned moment was during the song American Girl where Carrie brings a little girl up out of the audience (planned). This little girl happened to have just moved to Texas from Tulsa (unplanned). Then Carrie went into this spiel about how Texas drivers would make hand gestures at her representing UT. Letting the audience know she went North and “they sucked at everything so she has no beef.”

A musical highlight for me though was the acoustic set when she did her version of the Randy Travis song “I Told You So.” But in all honesty the start of the show and the end of the show had the most bang. A great deal of the middle just seemed to be filler. Even so, I would definitely go see her again. I just hope she continues to grow as a performer to better engage the audience and demand their attention.

                                                                                                                    -Rachel Parker Reviews Archive: 2008 2007 2006 2009 2010
