2010 Lady Antebellum: Need You Now (C+)

Country trio Lady Antebellum’s sophomore album is out now. The question at hand is, does it live up to it’s predecessor.

I wish I could say it does, but honestly its a tad on the weak side. Several of the tracks seem redundant and don’t hold much substance. There’s nothing to grab on to.

The one thing I do like, is the added use of Piano on several tracks. That adds a little thickness to songs and isn’t a predominant feature in country music.

Listen to these: Our Kind of Love, Love This Pain, Ready to Love Again, Need You Now

-Rachel Parker Nick Jonas: Who I Am (B)

The youngest Jonas has ventured off and put out a cd with his band “The Administration.”

After giving the disc a listen its obvious that Nick is good song writer, but has much to learn. At first thought I felt like I was listening to the Jo Bro’s on ambien.

Nick is at his best when he’s playing soulful funk tracks like “State of Emergency.” But I cant deny a great piano tune like “Vesper’s Goodbye” either.

While Nick has song writing talent, his vocals leave something to be desired. The soulful bluesy guitars don’t do anything to compliment his prepubescent singing and would be better suited for a voice like that of Gavin Degraw’s. The one unfortunate thing that will keep adults from being able to really enjoy the cd.

Listen to these: State of Emergency, Vesper’s Goodbye, Olive & An Arrow, Stronger

Christina Aguilera: Bionic (C)

Christina Aguilera has been off the music scene for 4 years, returning with her latest effort “Bionic.”

I knew Bionic was going to be a little different when she released the tune “Not Myself Tonight.” Unfortunately for Christina it wasn’t a good different.
Experimental tunes like “Elastic Love” just come off sounding obnoxious. Some of the tracks almost sound like a desperate attempt to repeat the success and shock value she had on “Stripped.”

There’s light at the end of the tunnel though. The end of the album gives us a few songs with the signature Christina sound and quality I’ve come to expect. The most stand out one to me being “You Lost Me.”

She had 4 years to make a great album and it doesn’t stand up to how amazing “Back to Basics” was. There are a few gem’s which would make this a bit of a cherry picker.

Listen to these: All I Need, I Am, You Lost Me, Vanity

-Rachel Parker Twilight Saga: Eclipse (A-)

The next installation in the Twilight Saga is about to hit theaters at the end of the month. We checked out some of the tunes that will be accompanying the film.

The Eclipse soundtrack sticks to the familiar formula of mixing lesser known acts with a couple artist on the verge, of course including Meyer’s musical muse.. Muse. The band has the band has the lead single off the soundtrack titled “Neutron Star Collision.”

If you’ve read the book, when you listen to the soundtrack, you’ll see where tunes like “The Line” by the band Battles, and “Rolling In On A Burning Tire” by “The Dead Weather” might fit in. But the tune I was really digging on was “Heavy in your Arms” by Florence & The Machine.

This soundtrack is bound to be the best compilation of music you could buy this year.

Listen to these: Eclipse (All Your), Heavy in Your Arms, Chop & Change, The Line (deluxe edition only)
