Straight Ahead Review Sunday night, David Cook ripped through a 70 minute set at the Palladium in Dallas. If you were there, you experienced what it feels like to have your face melted off by his guitar playing. If you weren’t there.. your face is still in tact, but you majorly missed out.

David started the night out with Mr. Sensitive and I Did It For You.. don’t let the names of the songs fool you, they were all rock, awesome guitar solos and all. The set didn’t stop there, he moved into gritty tracks like Kiss on the Neck and Barbasol, which are two tracks heavy enough to leave you gasping for air from rocking out.

Cook, coming from American Idol is a refreshing breath of air, proving he is an adequate artist all around. Sure some folks compare his sound to Daughtry or Nickleback, but in all honesty his vocals smoke both of those bands, even after a respectable 140 shows this year.

David even paid homage to his old band the Midwest Kings doing a number from one of their albums. Then doing a rockin’ cover of I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight... does that song remind anyone else of that wedding singers SNL skit?

David finished the evening with his hit Light On, and then a track from his independent cd “Analog Heart” titled Straight Ahead, climbing off the stage and onto the barricade showing the dedicated audience some well deserved love.

It was quite the set, David is a true rock star.. but he sure doesn’t have the ego of one. Thanking the audience multiple times through out the evening for coming out and spending their time and hard earned money to be there. His talent and his honest gratitude make his show one well worth going to.

                                                                                                                    -Rachel Parker 2008 2007 2006 2009 2010
