A Daily Anthem Review David Cook finally came semi close to Dallas on his Declaration tour. So we ventured up across the state line to the Winstar Casino. This was our first experience at this venue, it was pretty nice, good lights and sound. I do have to go ahead and dig into security here because they seemed incessant about stopping patrons from taking photos (something that wasn’t an artist restriction but instead a venue restriction for god knows whatever reason), patrolling the aisles and walking back and forth across the front row. Talk about distracting, to me a person pacing there right in front of me is a bigger distraction than the camera flashes. However it didn’t take longer than one song for the front section to rush the stage though, making it difficult for venue security.
David feeding off the energy of the enthusiastic crowd, blasted through a pretty good set list keeping the energy flowing. Rocking out to gritty tracks like Barbasol and a cover of Hot for Teacher, which had been cut from the set for a little while due to his guitar player Skib’s finger injury.
Something almost as great as Cook’s actual performance was the banter between songs. David taking the time to let everyone know he won some of Winstar’s money on the Black Jack Table. Also getting the audience riled up by asking who was from Texas and who was actually from Oklahoma.. Texas winning by a mile. Oh and we cant forget to mention laughing about some of the shenanigans and pranks from the opening act during his set.
In typical fashion his hit “Light On” was saved for the encore, and fans around the room showed their support as they held up their IPOD with the Light On application glowing. (It’s an application for the ipod touch with a flaming lighter on the screen) Ending the night with the ultimate crowd participation track on the album A Daily Anthem.
We cant wait till David actually comes to Dallas. We’d go see him again in a heart beat. One fair warning though! His show is LOUD so bring some ear plugs!
