Concert Reviews & Photos Maroon 5 & Counting Crows @ Superpages.com Center 9/06/08 The co-headlining tour of chart toppers Maroon 5 and Counting Crows came to Superpages.com Center this weekend. The two have been alternating headlining each night, which basically just meant one or the other went last. Neither had a shorter set due to going first or last.

The high energy Maroon 5 walked out onstage calmly before breaking into their bust out hit “Harder to Breathe” not slowing down with the well known songs there going straight into their latest single “If I Never See Your Face.” Adam Levine leading the way with his distinct vocals, while James Valentine showed off on guitar. While the band mixed in a number of songs that haven’t gone to radio. A good portion of the set list was made up of the hits. Which is more of a compliment to say they’ve had that much success off of only 2 studio albums.

Something I really enjoy that the band does is mix cover songs into their own in a medley type fashion a prime example is the Police Song “Roxanne” mixing with their song “The Sun.” A really great moment was when Adam gave a semi accapella rendition of Stevie Wonders “Love’s in Need of Love Today” leading it into “Wont Go Home Without You.” They ended the night with their super hit song “This Love” finishing the song with Adam throwing the guitar he used for that number up into the air letting it hit the stage, before picking it back up and handing it to a fan in the front. Now that’s a cool souvenir to take home.

After a short set change Adam Duritz of Counting Crows made his way onstage after a video tribute to Issac Hayes. The rest of the band was missing so Adam was going to do a song by himself on the piano, not wanting to make the audience wait, but alas the band walked on stage right as Adam went to sit down.

The Crows set was a bit toned down, giving more of an acoustic laid back set than one would imagine, especially after having to follow Maroon 5. It made the pairing of the two bands seem a little odd. One band was high energy and the closing band was laid back acoustic. You would imagine the acoustic sets would be saved for the non headlining nights. I do have to admit it was pretty cool getting to hear a more mellow version of Mr. Jones. Duritz had a ton of energy but I just wasn’t really digging the Counting Crows as much as I was Maroon 5.
