Concert Reviews & Photos Michelle Branch @ The State Fair of Texas 10/18/08 Review Seven years after her first State Fair of Texas appearance, Michelle Branch brought a special Acoustic set to the State Fair saturday night. Giving the audience a more intimate set with herself and 2 other guitarist backing her. While the show started off with a few technical difficulties that were brushed off with some lighthearted jokes about how professional they were.

When the show got going, it was a real treat to get to hear stripped down versions of songs like "Everywhere," "All You Wanted" and "Are You Happy Now" She also did a great deal of new material from the upcoming album, sounding frustrated when she mentioned it wouldn't be out till the new year. One of the numbers called "Crazy Ride" she had written about her daughter Owen, whom she spoke of frequently during her set. Letting the audience know that Owen called another one of the new songs "Pretty Little Lion King Eyes", actually titled "Pretty Little Lyin' Eyes."

The audience was even treated to a bit of a mid show therapy session as Michelle referred to it, during some banter with her guitarist Owen. Calling him a "Special Person" and discussing his relationship problems, and how he and her 3 year old have quite a bit in common. He definitely made the number "Leave the Pieces" interesting, singing back up as if he was Jessica Harp. It sounded more like he was singing for a Hair band. But that's what made it so amusing.

My favorite numbers of the night were the Tom Petty cover "You Wreck Me" and the song "Goodbye to You" which I'm aware is a pretty lame choice since she did it mostly acoustic the last fair visit. It's just so good as an acoustic song! Though my favorite non musical moment of the night is when she Thanked the audience for liking her show even though she didn't have her football player boyfriend in the audience. She said she was just kidding, but kidding or not it was a great statement.

Michelle ended the evening with The Wreckers number "Stand Still, Look Pretty" and then the title track off her upcoming album "Everything Comes and Goes." By the end of the set, the audience had thinned out a bit, but that's quite unfortunate for them. They missed out on a good show by a talented artist.

                                                                                                                              -Rachel Parker Reviews Archive: 2008 2007 2006 2009 2010
