Concert Reviews & Photos Rodney Atkins @ The State Fair of Texas 10/03/08 Review The State Fair of Texas festivities continued this weekend, with country artist Rodney Atkins heading up the mainstage on Friday night. I have to say, the acts at the fair have been ridiculously punctual, kudos to the stage manager on that one. Rodney hit the stage with his upbeat number “These are my people.” Letting everyone know after the song that he was happy to be in Texas where he can relate. While Atkins himself may not seem the typical country guy at first, sporting no cowboy hat and all. But to me, the roper jeans and baseball cap makes him look like more than half the guys in my Agriculture class in high school. He had quite a bit of energy, smiling and waving to little kids in the crowd and running around on stage, even when he got his guitar he tried not to stay at the microphone stand too much. The only numbers he wasn’t running around on, were the expected slower songs. While Atkins set wasn’t perfect, he’s obviously been doing this quite a while. Hopefully with more time in the spotlight he will become a stronger performer, not to mention he’s been touring with Brooks and Dunn, and watching those guys cant hurt. -Rachel Parker Reviews Archive: 2008 2007 2006 2009 2010
