Up and coming all girl band Von Iva stopped in Dallas thursday to play The Vixen Lounge. Hitting the stage to their song LALA giving the audience a taste of just what to expect. Drummer Kelly Harris beating away at the drums, keyboardist Becky Kupersmith adding in a synthetic sound and singer Jillian Iva adding her soulful vocals filling the room with their very unique sound.

As the set moved along, something I noticed about these girls is they definitely go out and give it their all. At a few points I thought the singers dancing was a little over the top, however most of the time it seemed as if she was just having a good time. Even I was amused when she hopped off stage and joined the folks dancing down front.

The stand out number during the 45 minute set was “No Man,” which lead in with Jillian singing a cappella, then joined by the band. The audience at Sue Ellen’s Vixen Lounge definitely appreciated the sentiment of needing no man.

In the end while Jillian has some super soulful vocals, I would have liked some more conviction to what she was singing. Not being afraid to look the audience in the eye and sing the lines, so they believe what you’re selling, separates a great vocalist from a great performer. These ladies are full of talent and I see good things to come if they continue to work hard and grow as performers.
